Gender And Alternative Care Advisor

The Gender and Alternative Care Advisor will provide strategic guidance, technical support, and capacity building to ensure that gender equality and child protection principles—especially those related to alternative care—are effectively integrated into Acreol’s programs and policies. The advisor will play a critical role in promoting gender-responsive and inclusive care systems, supporting the development and implementation of alternative care models, and strengthening community-based care and protection mechanisms for vulnerable children.
Key Responsibilities:
● Provide technical leadership on integrating gender and alternative care across Acreol’s projects and policy work.
● Support the development and implementation of family- and community-based alternative care systems in alignment with international best practices.
● Conduct gender and care assessments to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities in program design and implementation.
● Develop and deliver training and capacity-building sessions for staff, partners, and community stakeholders on gender sensitivity, child protection, and care models.
● Work closely with monitoring and evaluation teams to develop indicators that track progress on gender and alternative care outcomes.
● Engage with government agencies, civil society, and international organizations to influence policy and strengthen collaboration on care reform and gender issues.
● Support case management systems to ensure gender-responsive approaches in placement decisions, reunification, and reintegration processes.
● Contribute to funding proposals, reports, and communication materials related to gender and alternative care themes.
Qualifications and Experience:
● Master’s degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Child Development, International Development, or related field.
● At least 5 years of experience in gender-focused programming and child protection, including work on alternative care systems.
● Deep understanding of international frameworks (e.g., UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, CRC, CEDAW).
● Proven experience working with vulnerable children, families, and communities in humanitarian or development settings.
● Experience in advocacy, policy influence, and systems strengthening is a strong advantage.
● Prior experience in training, facilitation, and mentoring across diverse cultural contexts.
Skills and Competencies:
● Strong knowledge of gender equality principles and their application in child protection.
● Familiarity with case management, psychosocial support, and family tracing and reunification practices.
● Excellent communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
● Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a sensitivity to cultural and gender dynamics.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
● Fluency in [English/French/Other relevant language]; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
